Pruning Overgrown Arborvitae

Pruning Overgrown Arborvitae

These Arborvitae had grown too tall to maintain. I brought in a 16' Orchard Ladder & leveled off the tops to create an even height line.

We're half way there! Chop n Drop the tips, some of which were 12 feet tall. The challenge was to make clean (hidden) cut points while controlling the drop to protect the fragile foliage below.

Here is the finished first row of Arborvitae.

Finish on the Level

The second row of Arborvitae was a bit more evenly grown overall and still mostly 6 to 8 feet out of reach for maintenance. After dropping the tops, a hedge trimmer was used to sheer the sides for a nice clean finish.

Finish on the Level

This 'finish' photo was taken with a marker left behind to show a visual benchmark for how much was removed. No maples were harmed in the dropping of the toppings.

I left a bit of the end uncut to show how much was removed

Garden Pruning Productions was started with a mission to promote and provide authentic Japanese style gardening. From years as a hobby, we began by rescuing neglected Lace leaf Maples. Soon, word got around and demand began to grow as people with these trees wanted help they could trust.
